I know this is a different way of learning, but I am here to help. Our class website is here for you also, to help you better understand what we are learning and focusing on these next 4 weeks.

Distance Learning Update:

Hello boys and girls!
Starting Monday, April 6th we will be trying to learn as much as we can online. I will post on here your daily assignments. This will be a four week plan. You will see me listing below week 1, week 2, week 3 and week 4. 

I will put pictures and sometimes, videos, on Class Dojo also. You may need a parent to help you complete this work. Have your parent help you take a picture of your completed assignments when they are done.

If you can print an image I send you.... great!   
If not, you can write down answers on a piece of paper and then take a picture of your answers and send them to me on Class Dojo or email me at:  rachel.timlin@pvschools.org


Our main focus is reading, writing and math.

Math - Use your Everyday Math Login to click on lessons I assign.

Writing - We will have a weekly writing topic, you will have all week to finish a story and submit it in at the end of the week. 

Reading - I will be making you a RAZ kids account. This has books online you can read!
​Read, Read, Read each day!! Keep a book log and take a picture of it for me.



Week 1 - April 6th to April 10th

Monday - April 6th
Math - Login to your Everyday Math online account.
Click on Lesson 7.8
Do Math Journal pages 186-187
Use Data Chart under resources tab above.
Have your child try Math Box page 188

Reading - check to see if you can Login to RAZ kids and begin reading. Check resources tab above for a book log to print, or write down your daily reading.
Everyone should be reading for 15 minutes.

Writing - We are working on a Rainforest story.
How would we turn our classroom into a Rainforest?
Try to use as many details as you can and explain/inform me how this would be done. 

Read the Rainforest story under the resources tab and also, gather and begin writing your ideas on the Rainforest Writing Page (see resources above).

**TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR WORK AND EMAIL IT TO ME OR SEND IT TO ME ON CLASS DOJO!**

Tuesday - April 7th
Math -  Try as much of you can of Lesson 7.7 online 
**I know we are going out of order :)
-Check the resources tab above for the Jump Lengths graph needed to make a line plot. You can use a piece of paper at home and draw this.
-I just used the one from my Math manual since we are not together to do a class graph.
-Do Math Journal page 184 to help you review drawing tens and ones and also ballpark estimate.
-Draw pictures to help you solve. 
-Have your child try Math Box page 185
-Complete Homelink 7.7
**Ballpark estimate is rounding to the nearest counting by 10's number.**

​Reading -  Login to RAZ kids and begin reading. Check resources tab above for a book log to print, or write down your daily reading.
Everyone should be reading for 15 minutes.

Writing - Continue working on a Rainforest story.
How would we turn our classroom into a Rainforest?
- Make sure your startup sentence gets the reader excited to learn more about turning our class into a Rainforest.
Add details to your sentences. 
Read the Rainforest story under the resources tab and also, gather and begin writing your ideas on the Rainforest Writing Page (see resources above).

Extra practice (check Fun Stuff tab above). Long vowels "oa" and "ow" review worksheet (not for a grade, just extra if you want.)

Wednesday - April 8th

Math - Complete lesson 7.9 in Everyday Math, pg. 192 in the Math Journal.
Use the favorite fruits graph I have created under the resources tab.
Try pg. 193 with a family member. I have a printable ruler under resources as well. 
Finally, complete Math Boxes pg. 189


Reading-  Please continue to login to RAZ kids and read/take quizzes and activities for the books I have assigned on your level.
RAZ kids gives me a percentage of books completed and quiz averages that will be helpful for grades.
 

Writing - Begin your final copy of your Rainforest story. Use details about the Rainforest and explain how you will turn our classroom into a Rainforest.  
This story is for a writing grade.
​Final copy is due on Friday. 

**Parents you may want to double check sentences so they make sense. Stress that small words (word wall words) should be spelled correctly and we have capital letters and periods in the right place. Do not feel the need to over correct, but I do correct spelling on words that are not making sense.
"Kid spelling" is acceptable but I should be able to easily figure it out. :)


Thursday - April 9th
Math - Complete pages 1 and 2 of the Unit 7 math review under the resources tab. Take a picture of your work.
You can print these pages or write the answers on a piece of paper. 
Reading - Login to RAZ kids and read/take quizzes and activities for the books I have assigned on your level.
Writing - Continue your final copy of the Rainforest story. This is for a writing grade. Make sure you have connecting words like first, next, then and last and details on how to turn our classroom into a Rainforest.
Have a parent read your story and make sure it makes sense. 
Final copy is due on Friday.


Friday - April 10th
​Zoom meeting today at 3:00pm if you guys are able to join.

Math -
We made it to Friday guys! Great work.
Today, just complete the last part of our Math Unit 7 under the resources tab. Pages 3 and 4. This will help kids with the math test on Monday the 13th. Students will complete the math test and then parents, please send me a picture. Thanks!

Reading - Keep reading everyone on RAZ kids! Your kids have already read over 70 books, and taken over 120 quizzes online this week! That is amazing.
I will work on assigning more to your child over the weekend! 


Writing - Please send me a picture (on my email or Class Dojo) that shows me the final copy of your Rainforest story. We will start a new story next week. 

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE EASTER HOLIDAY. YOU CAN FIND EASTER COLORING AND ACTIVITY PAGES UNDER "FUN STUFF" ABOVE. :)



Week 2- April 13th to April 17th

Monday - April 13th
Math - Click on resources above and try the Unit 7 assessment. Send me a picture of your work on class dojo or email. I would like to grade this so just try your best. 

Reading - Keep reading everyday on you RAZ kids account and taking quizzes!

Writing - We are starting a new story this week. You must inform/explain step by step using words like: first, next, then, last, finally - How to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. See resources above for an idea web to get you started. This is due by Friday. 


Tuesday April 14th-
Math - We are starting Unit 8. We are beginning lesson 8-1. You can try this lesson on your Everyday Math account online.  I will post a video around noon on Class Dojo explaining the new concepts in this Unit. Please complete math boxes pg. 195. (Also try Math box pg. 194 if you have time - they are good review questions.)

Reading - Continue reading everyday and taking quizzes on your RAZ kids account!

Writing - This week we are writing a step by step explanation of how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Use the idea web under resources to continue working on your story. 
You need words like: first, next, also, last and finally in this story. 


Wednesday - April 15th-
Math - I finally got my YouTube video working. :) Click on the link below and watch the video and then go on a shape hunt around the house or cut/glue pictures from newspapers or magazines of shapes with 3, 4, 5 or 6 sides.

Thursday - April 16th-
Math- Complete lesson 8-3 in Everyday Math online.
Complete pg. 197 in Math book and then do Math boxes page 198.


Reading - Continue to read each day on your RAZ kids account online! 

Writing- begin your final copy of your step by step peanut butter and jelly sandwich story. Have an adult check your work. You need words like: first, next, also, last and finally in this story. This is due by Friday. 

​Friday - April 17th-
We made it to the end of Week 2 - way to go everyone!
Math - play the game "shape capture" with a family member. The shapes and playing cards you will need are in the back of your math journal. These are the same shapes from my You Tube video on Wednesday. I will take a picture of the directions and send it to all parents on Class Dojo!

Reading - I AM SO PROUD OF YOU ALL! We are up to 153 books read on RAZ kids and 316 quizzes taken! Way to go super readers! :) Keep reading each day.

Writing- please send me a picture of the final copy of your peanut butter and jelly story. It will be for a writing grade. The ones I have gotten so far look great! Wonderful details and great connecting words like: first, next, then, also, last, finally.

Week 3- April 20th to April 24th
Monday - April 20th
Math -  Try lesson 8-4 on your Everyday Math online account. Complete page 199 in your math journal and math box page 200.

Reading - I sent each of you leveled books online on your RAZ kids account. Continue reading each day. 

Writing - We are starting a new story this week called, "How to Grow Sunflowers". Use the story under resources and the planning page to get your ideas started. You can use the story you read to help you write out the steps on how to grow sunflowers. 
Begin to gather your ideas. 

Tuesday - April 21st 
Math - Complete Math Box pg. 201. 
Review polygons by remembering that they are shapes made up of straight lines, the lines do not cross, and they are a closed figure. Try to draw a polygons that have these rules and have 3,4, 5 and 6 sides.

Reading-  I am sending you more books on A-Z reading online and I will be moving many students up a reading level! Keep reading each day.

Writing - Continue to work on your rough draft of your "How to Grow Sunflowers" story. Make sure you tell each step it would take, and add as many details as you can. We are working on informing/explaining in our writing this nine weeks. You will need a start up sentenced and a closing sentence. 

Wednesday - April 22nd
Math- Today is a review today. So have fun and go on

-Try to make each of these 2D shapes: Triangle, square, diamond (rhombus), trapezoid, hexagon, rectangle.
-Then challenge yourself and make quadrilaterals of different sizes. Remember, these are any closed figure that has 4 sides. 
-Finally, make different polygons. They follow rules: A closed figure that has straight lines and the lines do not cross. 
I will put examples on Class Dojo! Have fun. 
-Print and try the shape/angles worksheet under resources.
-Finally FOR FUN feel free to try and create a polygon creature under the fun stuff tab above! :)

Reading - Read, read read~ on RAZ kids!

Writing - Sunflowers story! Finish your rough draft on how to grow sunflowers. 

Thursday - April 23rd-
Math-  Use the same website as yesterday and practice making parallel lines and shapes with right angles.
We will keep today a shorter math day to give students who need extra time to catch up.

Reading - Read on your RAZ kids account.

Writing - Finish your Sunflowers story, and complete your final draft. This is due tomorrow for a grade. 

Friday - April 24th-

Zoom meeting today at 3:00pm if you guys are able to join. Download the Zoom app on your device and I will send you all an invite on Class Dojo! 

Math -
Look under resources above and take the 2D shapes quiz. Take a picture and send it to me on Class Dojo or email. 

Reading - Continue to read on RAZ kids each day. 

Writing - Please finish your Sunflowers story and send me a picture of your final copy!

Week 4- April 27th to May 1st -

Monday - April 27th - 
Math - Complete Math Boxes pgs. 205 and 209

Reading -Continue to read on RAZ kids. If you need more books on your level please send me a Dojo message. 

Writing - We are starting a new story this week. A day in the life of you! Describe step by step how your day goes. Don't forget a Start-up sentence and a Closing sentence. 
Use the flower graphic organizer under resources to help you gather your ideas! 


Tuesday - April 28th
Math- Complete lesson 8-8 in Everyday Math online and do pg. 210 in your math journal, as well as math box pg. 211.

Reading -Continue to read on RAZ kids. If you need more books on your level please send me a Dojo message. 

Writing - Continue your ideas on a day in the life of you.
Describe step by step what a day in the life of you looks like. 

Wednesday - April 29th-
Math - We are on lesson 8-9 and will continue to work on arrays. Remind students that an array is objects or symbols in rows and columns. Do pg. 212 in Math Journal. Pretend that we are in class and I gave you counters or cubes. For problem 2, if we were partners and we got 12 counters how would we draw an array? For problem 3, what if we got 15 counters, how could we draw an array. Write a number model under your drawing. An array is repeated addition. Parents now is a great time to introduce the multiplication sign!!
Finally, compete math box pg. 213.

Reading- Please read on RAZ kids each day.

Writing - Start writing your good copy of your story - A day in the life of you! Be sure you have a start up, sentence 4-5 good details, and then a closing sentence. You will need words like: First, Next, Also, Then, Finally.

Thursday - April 30th-
Math - Complete pgs. 1, 2 and 3, of the Unit 8 review in resources.
Parents discuss with your child parallel lines and right angles.


Reading- Please read on RAZ kids each day.

Writing - Finish your good copy of your story - A day in the life of you! Be sure you have a start up, sentence 4-5 good details, and then a closing sentence. You will need words like: First, Next, Also, Then, Finally.

There will be no other new assignments given this week that way students who need the time to finish their work can do so.
